A Surreal Life
Well, life just gets weirder and weirder around here! We think we've sold our house. We're not holding our breath--still lots of bridges to cross, but we're hopeful. That's the good news.
I guess there isn't really any bad news--just weird! First, Ben asked some of the elders if it would be okay for us to send out invitations to a fundraising meeting in a few weeks and one had a strange reaction. He decided the entire eldership needs to meet and talk about it before we can do anything. Micro-management at its finest. They had a meeting tonight, but he didn't think they could fit it into the agenda, so they will have to talk about it Sunday, he said. More waiting...
Tonight was also the "Town Hall Meeting" where the whole church discussed what kind of guy they want to replace Ben. We didn't go into the meeting, but got to enjoy the very animated after-effects. It must have been pretty interesting. The two comments most talked about were (as repeated to me), "We've got to get away from this Sunday morning clapping. We need to get back to a more reverant worship on Sunday mornings" and "We need someone who's not so charismatic." I suppose that means my husband is charismatic??? Several asked if they could just hire Ben back. Overall, it sounded like people want to be prayerful and find just the man God has for them. Surreal--we live here but we're already history!
I guess it's time to start packing!

Hang in there. Just remember that it is impossible to please everyone. You and Ben have had a wonderful ministry at Glenwood which has been confirmed by many. Don't let the voices of a few rob you of the knowledge that God used you two to do a great work there. And now, you can look forward to reading the next chapter of the story God is writing for you know. I am hearing some great things about the families who are planning to join you at the New Life Church.
Amen Alan. Much too often I let the voices of the few at GCR drown out the many. Some wonderful families are planning to go...what an exciting time.
