Family,
Could you take a moment to comment on this post and write down the charms each of your family members gave mom and the "why"? We would like to print them all out on a page for her to put in the back of her red book. Besides, all our blog readers will enjoy it!

Josh - soccer ball - because Grandma comes to my games and I like it.
Ashley - Christmas stocking - grandma is just like Mrs. Clause at Christmastime.
Emily - Art Pallette - I like painting pictures for Grandma
Mitch - Butterfly with a cross - loved getting to see the butterfly farm in Brazil.
Jill - Heart with a "B". Rita is the matriarch of the family. You have a lot of love in your heart to go around for a lot of people.
Cary - God binds us together when we're apart - no matter where we're all at, your love holds us together.
I got Mom a charm shaped like a bag with "seeds" written on the front. I'm here alone with the kids asleep and I felt a bit poetic, so here it is:
"Seeds"
With reckless hope she threw them forth;
Such tiny seeds of unknown worth.
On well trod paths most met their end,
Blown quickly by the western wind.
A few found root for but a day,
Then rocky soil stole life away.
Still others through the years survived
While never finding room to thrive.
But she has given all, it seems
By reaching down to stretch the seams.
From deep within her well worn sack,
She tossed the grain, not looking back.
Today, by sovereign choice of God
They echo from the path she trod:
The voices of the fruitful seeds
Recounting her heroic deeds.
Her tearful nights, and desperate prayers
took root. And now when she compares
The price to what the harvest brings:
“It didn’t cost a thing!” she sings.
Elijah--heart with baby prints--for Grandma's love for her babies, and especially the special care she gave him as an infant
Katy--shoe--because she and Grandma share a love for shoes and purses and clothes! And even a few physical traits--people are always telling her she looks like Grandma.
Alex--frog--because weboth love frogs and creatures and everything outside. Thank you, Grandma, for building the lakehouse. I love to go frog hunting every night when we are there.
Trisha--flowers w/ "Mom" heart--You are many things to many people--teacher, friend, mentor. But I get the special privilege and blessing of calling you Mom. What a blessed woman I am!
Ben--surfboard--because of your shared heritage as Californians, and also your encouragement of his heart to bring people to Jesus, specifically through YouthWAVE.
I selected a "Noah's Ark" charm for a number of reasons. Her homes are a retreat from the world, full of Godly hospitality; and the main reason is that she's made my new home (which she picked out) a pleasing haven away from the world as well. On a mental and spiritual level, she has protected us from evil trappings and has helped us "weather" the storms in our lives.
