Pleased to be Dad
Well, I told you all that spending time with you is my favorite thing to do. Following along with the blog communication has been great as well!
Randy, I am really enjoying being involved with your plans to go to Indonesia, or wherever the Lord finally lets you work with Him in the tsunami area. You are getting to be part of what I believe is a significant historical event of our times, from political, ecomonic, sociological as well as spiritual perspective. My prayer is that you will be able to see tangible fuit of your effort and, of course, that you will be safe as you travel, and that Anda and the kids will do well in your absence.
Alan, thanks for your very generous words. I am so proud of you as my son and it pleases me a lot that some of those feelings are mutual. The movie was super, as I understood it. Obviously, lots of mistakes are made by the characters but it seems to me that the maker of the movie is promoting very positive values of truth telling, loyalty, and acceptance of folks who do not fit the "beautiful" category. Overall, it is one of the most positive movies I have seen in a long time. It had quite an impact on me.
Mom took off this morning with Trisha, Alex, Katy and Elijah (and a Suburban filled to the brim with Christmas loot) driving to Ft. Worth. I am flying in this afternoon to meet them for dinner and then Trisha and the kids head on home to Tyler and Mom and I are at the ACU board meeting tonight and tomorrow morning, flying home late tomorrow evening.
Sunday is missions committee meeting, so lunch after Bible class would be my preference if that can work for everyone. I will try to check with you Saturday night.
Love to all, Dad.

Dad, I'm glad you liked the movie. Your analysis was dead on. The characters weren't perfect, but they portrayed a fairly realistic picture of what life is like in many American homes. For some reason, all of the men I have talked to that have seen the movie had the same response as you and I, but the women haven't found it as significant. I don't know why that is. Anyway, I would like to see it again sometime. Thanks again for being a great Dad.
