Just thinking about kitchen surgery

For some reason, Alex seems to be thinking about how one might be able to perform surgical procedures... Tonight he started asking questions and I remembered...
Years ago Grandma pierced cousin Debi's ears by deadening them with ice cubes and using a sewing needle. I guess it's a good thing Grandma has a well-stocked sewing kit!
Did you use thread or did you actually put earrings in her ears? Katy wanted to know...
