As we are quietly snorkeling down the river, I hear Bailey ask if seeing a alligator is normal for this trip. Then I heard Annie yelling, "Alligator, Alligator." They guide kept asking me what they were saying and telling me to tell them not to shout--it would scare the fish away. Finally I heard Annie yell, "Jacare!!!" (Portuguese for alligator). The guide assured us that it was OK, but I'm not sure that helped much. Bailey and Annie were the first ones down the river that day, and the alligator, who normally hides, was coming toward them. Bailey came up, turned on her back, and calmly (well, pretty calmly) told Allison, who was behind them, to stay calm because there was an alligator coming toward her. Allison tried not to panic and even had the presence of mind to take this picture with her new underwater camera. I was SOOO proud of her--for the picture of course. :)
