Connor's Trip is coming to a close.
We are getting our suitcases packed up for the last time and discussing what we are going to do when we get home. We all agree that it has been a wonderful trip. A couple of days were much less than ideal because of heavy rain (Boston and Williamsburg), but we pretty much liked it all. Connor is a fun, fun kid.
After NYC, we dragged our suitcases into the train station for the trip to Philadelphia at 6:15 am. (That was a hoot since the taxi driver left us at the wrong door and we had to wheel all our luggage around the block in NYC to find the right door.) In Philadelphia we did the historic area, the Philadelphia Zoo and then drove to Amish country.
After most of the day soaking in the charms of Amish country, we drove to Washington, DC for another change of pace. Our first day was scheduled for Williamsburg. On the way it started raining (Alberto, I believe) and didn't stop all day. It is hard to describe it anything but miserable, but we tried to make the best of it. The last two days have been spent squeezing in everything we could in DC. Our feet finally told us we had seen enough. We sat in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History looking at one another wondering who was going to holler for mercy first. We all agreed that the next stop was the subway and "home" to Alexandria to our hotel for a wee little nap, supper, and packing. No more monuments. No more history. No more museums.
We are a happy little group ready for Mount Vernon (Geo Washington's home) tomorrow before we go to the airport. Our boarding passes are printed and Connor is working on his journal. Grandpa and I have looked at each other a few times and wondered what kind of 12 year old trip we will be able to do in another 12 years. Tonight as we nurse our aching feet and muscles probably isn't the time to think about that. We have loved being with our little man Connor. He is delightful and a fantastic traveler. We have made a memory for a lifetime for all of us.
We are thankful to God that we are able have this experience with each of our grandkids so far. Each is unique and each is marvelous. We are thankful that their parents trust us with each of them. We are thankful that we have the opportunity to know them better as individuals. God is so good!!!
We look forward to rejoining the real world tomorrow night and seeing each of you. Love you all, mom
