Interesting possibility
We have a very interesting possibility on the horizon for New Life that we'd like you to pray about. The old Odessa Country Club facility is being sold to a company that doesn't want the building itself but the land adjacent to it, so we are checking into the feasibility of purchasing the building (including tennis courts and pool) at a very low price. The main room could seat 400-500, and although it would need some remodeling, it does have some great features. (A great kitchen, offices, classroom options, recreational possibilities which we'd like to offer to the community, parking, etc.) It's kind of a long shot--and quicker timing than we anticipated, but if the Lord dropped it in our laps it would be something very interesting to consider.
I keep thinking about our childhood experiences at that place. The most vivid is a July 4th celebration where we tried to get a greased watermelon out of the pool.
I wonder how it would affect our reputation as a church if we met at a country club (overlooking a still operating golf course!) Randy and Anda, didn't you have that experience with Christ Fellowship for awhile? Did it discourage the less-than-affluent?

We were in Grapevine where I don't think there were any "less-than-affluent" people. Our church had a broad mix of people anyway. I think the church culture is much more important than the building or location. Our main limitation was accessibility, not that we were at a golf course. God bless you as he leads you in his ways. Enjoy the journey.
